Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Ralliart Inc. have been awarding "Mitsubishi Motors/Ralliart Driver of the Year" since 1987 to praise the driver who competed actively in a race or rally season or won a championship title with a Mitsubishi vehicle inside or outside Japan. It was decided, at this beginning of the year, that the prize will also be awarded for 2006 drivers.
In 2005 Japanese motor sport season, five drivers were awarded these prizes for their remarkable results and clinching champions driving Mitsubishi vehicles such as Lancer Evolution or Colt in the All Japan Championships for Rallies, Dirt Trials and Gymkhanas and also in Super Taikyu Series(Endurance Race Series). "Mitsubishi Mortors/Ralliart Driver of the Year" has been awarded to 87 drivers and 9 teams in total in Japan from 1987 to 2005. ThishDriver of the Yearh prize will be awarded also for the champion drivers (team in Super Taikyu Series) driving Mitsubishis in the All Japan Championships for each of the above and the Series in 2006.

Outside Japan, these prizes were given to the private drivers who have been competed actively in FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Group N, FIA Production Car World Rally Championship(PWRC), FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship(APRC) or FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rally with a Mitsubishi vehicle such as Lancer Evolution or Pajero and the number of such drivers are cumulated to 100 since 1987. In 2006, champion drivers of PWRC, FIA Regional Championships (Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia-Pacific) and CCR (Cross-Country Rallies) entered with Mitsubishis will be the winner of the prize.

Driver who won the prize will be awarded a specially made plaque as a main prize, and Ralliart character goods as the supplementary prize. The prize giving ceremony will be held between the end of November and the beginning of December 2006 for drivers in Japan. For drivers outside Japan may be awarded them through Mitsubishi car dealers in their countries.
