Ordynski and Stewart now lead their Subaru rivals in that category of the championship. They also finished on the podium at the Sunshine Coast with the crews of the two exceptionally highly modified World Rally Cars (WRC) in the event.

After Saturday’s Showroom Production victory in the first heat of the Queensland Rally, Ordynski and Stewart finished second in the category Sunday to Subaru rivals Cody Crocker and Greg Foletta - but that was enough to give the Mitsubishi pair category honours for the weekend.

The Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer Evolution VI set the fastest Showroom Production times on five stages throughout the Queensland event and on another was equal quickest with Crocker’s Subaru.

Ordynski now has 72 championship points to Crocker’s 60, with the third round of the series being the new Coopers Pale Ale Rally of South Australia on July 6-8.

"It’s great to be in front in the (Showroom Production drivers) championship with the next round being my home event", Adelaide-based Ordynski said.

"What the event in Queensland has emphasised yet again is that you’ve got to have raw speed all the way through a rally and you’ve got to get to the finish. It’s not easy, but we’ve done that this weekend and it’s a very good result for us".

As expected, the WRC cars of New Zealander Peter "Possum" Bourne (Subaru) and Canberra’s Neal Bates (Toyota) took the outright honours both days on the Sunshine Coast.

Mitsubishi Ralliart fielded a second Showroom Production Lancer Evo V1 in Queensland for rising Victorian star Spencer Lowndes, who showed plenty of speed but had his share of problems. A front shock absorber failure on the rally’s longest stage on Saturday slowed Lowndes and on Sunday morning he had a tyre go flat during a stage.

"Nonetheless it’s been a fantastic weekend", Lowndes said. "It’s been great to be in such a well-organised team. I’ve been developing my own Mitsubishis for three years but this has been a huge difference".

Mitsubishi Ralliart will again field a second Lancer Evo VI in the Rally of South Australia with another "wildcard" driver.
